Every Journey Begins with one step..............

Sometimes the concept of one step at a time seems more of a giant leap at a time, we just never know what lies in our path and how we will choose to move forward!

I recently returned from the great north of Canada.  The journey identified was a trip to Cochrane and Moose Factory.  How fortunate am I to be able to share this adventure with my daughter , and how lucky am I to have the fortitude to drive this distance to a place my father experienced (and loved) when he first came to Canada.

During the past few years my life has changed considerably.  I would not be the woman today I am without the many challenges and joyful moments.

Exam Time (Old Post)

Post Secondary Exams for Singing Girl

(January 2012)

How strange it feels to be going through the experience of my daughter writing her first set of exams for high school. Not that I am longing for her to be half her age, she is 14 and although life can be a bit overwhelming parenting a teenager who is bright and outspoken the rewards are amazing. For some reason (check with my therapist) I relate much more closely with her excitement, anxiety, and sadness, after all I am a girl, and of course her mom!
I am so grateful that Singing Girl chooses to seek me out to go through her study sheets, and has designated me the role of testing her on all the material. She sometimes laughs at me because my French is a bit off (most of her classes are in French), but we somehow get through it. The results show in her work, but it is the time I spend with her that confirms to me as her mother (I am fortunate to have this lovely exciting girl in my life). Raising a teenager as you know can have its valleys and on those days I remind myself that I am learning too. After all, I have been there before (hormones raging) and I hope this gentle reminder to myself will help me be a better parent. Not perfect. I am far from that, but a parent that will hopefully be remembered one day for those moments when we both sat together preparing for exams and laughing about my French. That is enough for me.

Until Next time,

A not so unlucky day.....a phone call from Engineer Boy in London (finally a land line and magically static is no more!)

Blogging for the sake of just writing a few things down seems to be a bit of a waste of time (so I will attempt not to waste either my time or anyone else). During the past year I have read so....oo many wonderful blogs from delightful, energetic bloggers.  Homemaking is now such an in thing; and those who choose to stay home with their children are great at it.  I guess that I can say in my lifetime, I have done both.  Equally as difficult.  Equally as rewarding, and the children seem to benefit from good parenting and plenty of outside the home activities; but, don't quote me on that.  My children may look at things a bit differently in the end!  What I do know above everything else was that I was a better parent when happy; and that usually ment taking care of me EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, AND SPIRITUALLY (spirituality is personal...a choice).

As for me the weekend awaits with schoolwork (the question, the essay, and when to begin to study for that final exam?)
